Flatbed semi-trailers are widely used for transporting containers or heavy loads due to their simple, open design, which allows for easy loading and unloading. They are equipped with twist locks for delivering containers from terminals to warehouses and can be used for transporting 20ft, 40ft, and 45ft containers.

The main parts of a flatbed trailer include the main beam, cross beam, side beam, bottom floor, tires, rims, kingpin, landing gear, axle system, suspension system, braking system, and other spare parts.

Here are the details of the key structural components for the semi trailer:

1. Flatbed Trailer Frame

The frame of the semi-trailer is an important part that provides support, strength, and stability to the entire flatbed trailer. It is typically made of high-strength steel to ensure high bearing capacity.

Main Beams: Also known as longitudinal beams, run the length of the flatbed truck trailer and provide primary support. They are designed to be lightweight yet strong enough to withstand bending forces. The material used is high-strength Q345B/T700 steel.

Cross Beams run across the width of the flatbed tractor trailer, providing stability and weight distribution across the deck. They are placed vertically with the main beams to form a grid structure with higher strength. The material used is 10# channel steel.

Side beam attached to the main beam to form the side of the flat bed trailer, provide additional strength and structural integrity, supporting the floor and attachment points like rope tightener, rope hook. The material used is 16# channel steel.

2. Bottom Deck

The bottom deck of a flatbed container trailer is designed to evenly support and distribute the weight of the cargo, ensuring durability and safety. To prevent cargo from sliding, a non-slip floor made of 3-5mm diamond plate (also known as checkered plate) is typically used.

3.Axles

Flatbed trailers usually have multiple axles, such as 2 axle, 3 axle, or 4 axle configurations, located at the rear of the trailer. These axles are connected to the semi trailer frame and play a crucial role in supporting the weight of the cargo. The wheels and tires are mounted on the axles, allowing the trailer to bear the load and move efficiently.

4. Suspension System

The suspension system of a container flatbed trailer is designed to provide stability, support, and shock absorption during transport. There are typically two types of suspension systems used for trailers: Mechanical Suspension (Leaf Spring Suspension) or Air Suspension.

5. Braking System

For safety and reliability, 3 axle flatbed trailers are equipped with an air dual braking system. This system consists of two independent circuits that control the front and rear brakes using compressed air power. Components such as relay valves, separate air tanks, brake chambers, discs, and other elements work together to provide effective stopping power. Optional emergency brake valves may also be included for added safety.

6. Landing Gear

Located at the front of the tri axle flatbed semi trailer, the landing gear allows the flatbed semi trailer to remain upright and stable when not attached to a tractor. It can be raised or lowered to adjust the trailer's rear end for coupling and decoupling purposes. When a container semi trailer is uncoupled, the landing gear plays a crucial role in ensuring that the trailer remains stable and does not tip over.

7. The kingpin

Located at the front of the 40ft flatbed trailer is responsible for connecting the trailer to the fifth wheel on the truck. This connection is essential for the coupling mechanism between the 40 foot flatbed trailer and the tractor.

8.Twist Lock

40 foot container trailer are always equipped with twist locks to secure containers on the trailer deck and prevent them from sliding during transportation, enhancing safety.

Additionally, 40ft shipping container trailer come equipped with tie-downs, winches, rope tighteners, and rope hooks to secure loads effectively. Winches and ratchet straps can be used to tighten and secure cargo, preventing any movement during transport.
